I am quite fond of the television
Jul. 8th, 2025 09:10 pmSaid I'd talk about Tenna more in depth, so here I am once again! Deltarune spoilers below
Ant Tenna is desperately trying to keep our eyes on him throughout the chapter. He wants to be reminded that hes still got it. That's he's still groovy (and never gloopy). And after Board 2 where we don't want to keep playing so we can just seal the fountain, he keeps us playing by force. His turn to pure villainy doesn't last long though, by the second physical challenge you can already see him breaking down.
Example:
"Oh God. Oh God, it's coming. The music is coming. I can't stop it..."
"Wait, no. Not another battle. Please...The family's fighting again."
Divorce so bad even the TV got attachment issues.
We then eventually escape from Tenna, and we get to see him losing it even more. His employees are leaving him left and right, even MIKE! Considering how he's been abandoned before (By Spamton, we'll get to him, and the Dreamurrs), this only caused him to spiral more.
By the time we fight him, Tenna has absolutely nothing left. And hes basically fighting for his life here. If he loses here, then Tenna thinks he's just going to be abandoned forever. You can kind of hear this in "IT'S TV TIME!", unlike other final boss themes, it seems less...put together? IT'S TV TIME is upbeat, frantic, desperate. Just like how Tenna feels.
...Okay I gotta talk about Spamton.
I think its kinda funny how Spamton talked like Tenna was the devil and he was EVIL and we shouldn't trust anything he says. Only for us to actually meet the guy and hes like a sopping wet cat when Susie says she doesn't want to play at first.
Thinking about it, Spamton was probably his everything in that current moment. After all, he gave him everything he had. Their relationship was probably just for business purposes, but I'd be a big fat liar if I said it clearly didnt go beyond that, at least platonically (I'll get into the romantic reading of their relationship someday) Spamton taking that phone call and leaving him all alone was definitely the start of Tenna's attachment issues.
With all this, the ending of chapter 3 is lowkey heartbreaking. The fun gang let's Tenna know that no, hes not being abandoned. And there's someone out there who wants him. Everything is all fine and dandy and we think we're gonna just go home with Toriel.
And then Tenna fucking dies.
Alright, he doesn't DIE fr from. Apparently if you recruit all the enemies in TV World he gets fixed up but still. Bro has something to look forward to but nah we can't have him being too happy.
The fact that it was prophecized too....owch.
Sorry for those who expected something like a character analysis im not very good at those types of things. But TL;DR i think Tenna is very cool and I would watch his show every day every month every year.
